One of our favorite ways to finish an outfit is with an eye-catching jacket. While a tailored black or navy blazer is always in style, right now we're reaching for a more luxurious option. An on-trend velvet blazer feels like the perfect accompaniment to a cozy winter outfit. The rich, tactile fabric just feels festive this time of year, and the texture lends itself to creating visual interest no matter what you layer under it.

We first spotted velvet on the Fall 2014 runways at Jason Wu, Nina Ricci and Sportmax, among others.

Celebrities have translated the trend into wearable yet fashion-forward jackets. Model Jessica Hart has been seen out and about in a gorgeous velvet, cranberry blazer. Always-edgy Rihanna rocked an oversized black velvet blazer over a bodysuit at the British Fashion Awards, while J. Crew's resident style master, Jenna Lyons, went bold in a plunging velvet blazer and smart trousers.
