Rachel McAdams breast pumped while decked out in Versace during a photoshoot with Girls. Girls. Girls. magazine, and it's probably our favorite picture from 2018.
The magazine's founder Claire Rothstein took to the publication's official Instagram to share the pic, explaining, "A million reasons why I wanted to post this picture. Obviously #rachelmcadams looks incredible and was quite literally the dream to work with but also this shoot was about 6 months post her giving birth to her son, so between shots she was expressing/pumping as still breastfeeding. We had a mutual appreciation disagreement about whose idea it was to take this picture but I’m still sure it was hers which makes me love her even more. Breastfeeding is the most normal thing in the world, like breathing and I can’t for the life of me imagine why or how it is ever frowned upon or scared of. I don’t even think it needs explaining but just wanted to put this out there, as if it even changes one person’s perception of something so natural, so normal, so amazing then that’s great."
In the picture, McAdams is wearing Versace and Bulgari diamonds, looking more fierce that we've ever seen her before.
Though breastfeeding is a normal, common, and natural part of motherhood, it's unfortunately not always met with public acceptance. Remember when Chrissy Teigen was criticized for posting a picture of her breastfeeding? Yeah, somehow shaming women and motherhood has become a thing, though we can't really say we're all that surprised.
Well, Rachel McAdams and the team at Girls. Girls. Girls. aren't having any of it, and neither are we.
Making this photo even more iconic is the fact that it wasn't until late last month that the private actress confirmed that she had given birth to her first child in April, revealing, "It’s the greatest thing that’s ever happened to me, hands down." To go from almost complete silence to this picture is a powerful move, and a win for mamas everywhere.
This is real life, whether you're wearing Versace or not.
Congratulations to Rachel McAdams and the new baby. Motherhood clearly suits you well.
