Growing up, theme parks were my jam. Not because I love cartoon characters, it was more about the feeling a place can create just by being there. I love Straw because dining there is an experience rather than just a place to eat.
With vintage game signs and children’s storybooks made into menus, it’s always inspiring to discover a restaurant with a consistent vision in food, atmosphere and branding. Step on up and read all about my favorite spot for comfort food.
What to wear: Leave the clown costume at home. Straw is located in Hayes Valley, where there’s large creative community. An eclectic way of dressing is always welcome – try pairing a fitted midi skirt with high-top Chuck Taylors. For a little edge, throw on a distressed denim vest with leather wrap bracelets.
What to get: The Fried Chicken-n-Waffle Monte Christo is as good as it sounds – not to mention it’s huge. Split it with a friend and order the soft pretzel appetizer or the funnel cake for dessert.
Pro tip: Call ahead and reserve a seat in the Tilt-o-Whirl booth. It’s a good excuse to get close to that special someone.(Photo Courtesy of Tyler Ball)Click here to continue the tour of San Francisco.
