To Take in the View: Bernal Heights Park

To Take in the View: Bernal Heights Park(Courtesy of Tyler Ball)For a bird's-eye view of the entire Bay Area, Bernal Heights Park is the place to be even on the foggiest of San Francisco days. The inland location prevails through the marine fog, making the epic sights of downtown and Sutro Tower worth the short hike up the hill. Trek through the rich red gravel for an out-of-this-world experience – it feels like you’ve landed on Mars. On days when San Francisco hits a warm 70 degrees Fahrenheit, this park is packed with residents of all ages soaking in the breathtaking views.

Wear a jersey maxi dress or light cotton tee with cut-off shorts for an afternoon of sunbathing. Take Fido with you and throw on a pair of comfy low-top sneakers.

What to bring: Pack a big canvas tote with a picnic blanket, snacks and water. Don’t forget the sunblock. It can get breezy, so be sure to take a light sweater or denim jacket.

Pro tip: If you’re not afraid of heights, hop on the tree swing located at the top of the hill. The best time to visit is Monday through Friday to avoid the weekend rush.
