Sometimes the simplest things are best: Butter on toast, that song from 1964, a little tee with a bold full skirt. You don't need much when the elements at play are perfect on their own.
Call it a backlash, but after all that peacocking over the past few years, fashion seems to have calmed down this year. Above, actresses Rashida Jones
, Garcelle Beauvais
, and Kristen Bell
all kept things simple by pairing solid tees with knee-grazing voluminous skirts. We love how Jones threw on a vest and poppy accessories in silver and red for a real-world, really chic look. Beauvais proved that color and a touch of texture go a long way—and look perfectly pulled together, even at a movie premiere. Bell, the dressiest of the bunch, would have looked just as lovely at a fine lunch date as she did at a benefit. (Source: Piperlime, Banana Republic, ASOS)
Were we shopping for the trend, we might pick up a punchy tee
, such as the one above from Michael Kors
($89), to pair with full skirts. There's nothing simpler than salt and pepper, and Banana Republic's windowpane-print skirt
($79.50) is a dash of something needed in our wardrobes. For a breezier version, we'd opt for a sheer skirt
such as the one above from ASOS ($71.94).
