Now that New York Fashion Week is officially over, we can sit back and reflect on what we've learned from the Fall 2015 runways. And since the February shows actually reflect the cold-weather garb we're still wearing, you can try your hand at these styling tricks immediately. Here are a few of our favorite moves we spotted this season.
Throw an Oversize Blazer Over a Sequin Mini Dress
We're always looking for stylish ways to cover up our formal wear in a way that doesn't detract from our dress. Last season, it was fur vests that added an extra glam touch, but now Monique Lhuillier has us reaching for a more menswear-inspired option. We love the juxtaposition of masculine and feminine in this pairing, and the trick to pulling it off properly is choosing a slouchy, longer blazer that falls just a few inches above your dress' hem. The effect is reminiscent of those times you borrowed your date's suit jacket when it got chilly—only much chicer.
Try Tonal Dressing
We noticed this update to monochromatic dressing at Zac Posen, where models sported a single shade head to toe in various gradations. This move is especially successful when you keep the lighter hues up top and go darker as you move down. It also helps to vary not only tones but texture for added dimension.

This one should come as welcome news to anyone who's been suffering subzero temperatures this winter: Rather than brave the frigid weather in a skimpy dress the next time you go out, simply wear your frock over a thin turtleneck like the models at Jill Stuart, Mara Hoffman and Zimmermann. Not only will this base layer keep you warm, but it will refresh your look and allow you to give seasonal pieces some extra wear. It's also a stylish way to stay modest for anyone averse to showing too much skin.
