Michael Kors' monochromatic vision for fall taps into the sleek '70s Studio 54 look, but stops short of looking retro. Perhaps this is because all the pieces shown in the Fall 2011 fashion show Wednesday were long and starkly clean, a straightforward luxurious that could never be deemed trendy.

Kors' ballgowns, many of them featuring eye-catching slits, blouson bodices and high, regal collars, looked as if they were crafted with the muted elegance of Angelina Jolie in mind. Kors' front row was studded with familiar faces, including style mavens Anjelica Huston, Bette Midler and Catherine Zeta Jones. Jones told a reporter that she plans to wear Michael Kors later this month for a very important engagement: Her royal CBE ceremony.
