Sips and Tips: The Cookie Shot and The Milky Way Mani

We paired Dominique Ansel's famous cookie shot with a manicure that's as classic as the tasty treat itself.

We here at StyleBistro are big proponents of enjoying the little things in life—from a tasty treat to a fresh manicure. So we decided to pair two of our favorite indulgences for a new series we're calling Sips and Tips. In these deliciously fun articles, we'll share with you a recipe for one of our favorite drinks of the moment, as well as a manicure inspired by the beverage of choice. Think of it as just another way to incorporate personal style into every aspect of your life.

This week's Sips and Tips features our other favorite treat to pair with a manicure—cookies. Our featured cookie happens to be a very special one that's coveted by many dessert lovers in NYC. The cookie shot glass, created by Dominique Ansel, the cronut mastermind, pastry chef and author of Dominique Ansel: The Secret Recipes, is a sought-after treat, especially around the holidays. Sadly, Ansel is keeping the cookie shot recipe under wraps, but we found a recipe on Popsugar for a similar sweet shot. As for our matching mani, we used beauty booking service Beautified to set us up with some pros at Vanity Projects to bring our milky mani to life.

The Sip and Snack: Inspired by Dominique Ansel's Cookie Shot

One cup shortening
One third cup granulated sugar
One half cup light-brown sugar
One large egg yolk
Two teaspoons vanilla extract
Two cups all-purpose flour, sifted
One half teaspoon salt
One cup mini chocolate chips

One cup dark-chocolate candy melts
One and one half cups milk
One and one half teaspoons vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease the molds of a popover pan. In a large bowl, cream together the shortening and brown and granulated sugars. Add the egg yolk and vanilla extract, and mix until completely incorporated. Gradually add the flour and salt, and mix until completely incorporated. Add the mini chocolate chips, and mix together until evenly distributed. The dough should be a little crumbly at this point. Form the cookie shots inside the molds, making the walls of the cookie shot about one-quarter-inch thick. Chill for 20 to 30 minutes before baking. Bake for about 20 minutes or until the cookies just start to brown. Remove from the oven, and let cool completely. Melt chocolate candy melts, and then pour the melted chocolate into the well of each cookie. Let it sit for a minute, and then pour the excess chocolate back into the pan. Chill cookie shots until the chocolate has set. Mix together milk and vanilla extract and serve inside each cookie shot.

Begin by applying your basecoat. Next apply two coats of the white nail polish of your choice. After the white is dry, use a thin brush to create a half moon shape at the base of the nails in the golden brown color. Let dry. Take a dotting tool and apply varying sizes of dark brown spots on the half-moon portion. Let dry and apply your favorite top coat.
