We here at StyleBistro are big proponents of enjoying the little things in life—from a tasty treat to a fresh manicure. So we decided to pair two of our favorite indulgences for a new series we're calling Sips and Tips. In these deliciously fun articles, we'll share with you a recipe for one of our favorite drinks of the moment, as well as a manicure inspired by the beverage of choice. Think of it as just another way to incorporate personal style into every aspect of your life.
Raise your glass to a successful 2014 and toast to an even better new year with our bubbly champagne cocktail and gleaming glitter manicure so sparkly, you don't even need bling. For this week's cocktail, we tracked down the Champagne Étoile recipe from one of our favorite lifestyle blogs, the always gorgeous Coco + Kelley. To match our fizzy treat, Beauty Booked set us up with a mani date at Wonderland Beauty Parlor to give us blinged-out tips.
The Sip: The Champagne Étoile
One cup sugar (or 3/4 cup agave)
One cup water
One vanilla bean, split and seeds scraped
Prosecco, champagne or sparkling wine, chilled
Colored sugar for style
To make the syrup, combine the sugar, water, bean and seeds in a small pot. Bring to a boil over medium heat and cook until the sugar is dissolved. Let cool to room temperature and discard the bean.
For one cocktail, add a shot of bourbon and two tablespoons vanilla bean syrup to a chilled champagne flute. Fill to the top with prosecco or champagne. Squeeze lemon juice into glass and drop rind in. Add colored sugar on rim, if desired. Cheers!
The Tips: The Gleaming Glitter Mani
Apply the base coat followed by two coats of HIPP x RGB t1. Apply a layer of clear polish over the tip of the nail to prep for glitter application. Dip the fine-tipped brush into a tiny amount of clear polish. Use the brush to apply a few of the large gold glitter chunks to the top of the nail, stopping about halfway down. Using the same technique, apply the small gold glitter pieces as well. Finish by dipping the larger gel brush into the clear polish and painting on the fine glitter to blend and give the gradient effect. Apply topcoat and hit the town.
