is more than a great beauty—she is a woman who has revolutionized the beauty industry for women of color. In the 1970s, she was among the first African-born women to conquer the modeling industry, eventually becoming Yves Saint Laurent’s muse and “dream woman.” In 1994, she launched Iman Cosmetics, catering exclusively to women who had, for years, struggled to find beauty products that matched their skin tones.
Iman isn’t just beautiful: She makes women feel beautiful. Below, Iman shares her textured perspective on beauty with us. 1. What makes you feel beautiful?
Feeling beautiful isn’t about a trend or a particular look. It’s about treating yourself fabulously. No matter your age or your skin tone, you’ve got to love the skin you’re in. Even with no makeup, you should feel beautiful and that starts with a great complexion. That’s why I created skin care that’s luxurious for skin of color. Forget the soap & water, harsh alcohol and heavy Vaseline that people grew up using. Treat your face like you deserve the best with botanicals, vitamins and sun protection. 2. Do you ever have days when you don't feel attractive, and if so, do you have any quick fixes?
Every mom and working woman knows that at the end of a long day of meetings, traveling, taking care of family, you need a pick me up. So the two things that I swear by, if I need to get glam in a hurry, are IMAN Cover Cream Enriched with Minerals which perks up tired eyes and conceals ANY imperfection; and Sheer Bronzing Powder in Afterglow which is a trio of shades in one compact that you can sweep on your eyes and cheeks to make your whole complexion looked refreshed. 3. Which women do you most admire?
I admire women who have created opportunities where opportunities didn’t exist. Whether it’s opening the doors in the fashion industry or starting community programs for AIDS education in small villages. There are so many women all over the world whose names will never be famous but they are leaders and heroes. 4. Who do you think is the most beautiful woman over 50?
My mother. One of the best lessons she taught about beauty was that skin you take care of in your 20’s is the skin you’ll inherit in your 30’s, 40’s and beyond.Browse Iman's latest looks (click any thumbnail below):
