We always knew President Barack Obama
was a snazzy dresser—but did you know that he the a golden touch when it comes to running a fashion business, as well?
Remember way back, during the campaign (seems like ages ago, no?), when, at the urging of Vogue
Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour
, Obama's campaign collaborated with dozens of well-known American-based designers to create "Runway to Win"—a capsule collection of pro-Obama garments and accessories designed by the likes of Tory Burch, Thakoon, and Rag & Bone?
Well, turns out, Obama's fashion initiative—though roundly mocked by the Republican party—raised a heck of a lot of money for his campaign.
"That ended up bringing in just north of $40 million," Obama's campaign manager Jim Messina told Bloomberg BusinessWeek
Not bad for his first fashion season! It takes most new collections and designers more than five seasons to break even.
