Clothes I've Learned (the Hard Way) NOT to Buy

Save your money and your sanity.

1. Clothes That Wrinkle

The worst culprit? Clothes that re-wrinkle while you wear them. NEVER AGAIN.

2. Clothes That Are Too Tight or Too Short

General rule: If you can't sit in it or eat in it, you will HATE wearing it. It will be bitterly discarded at the end of the night never to be worn again...until clothing amnesia sets in like, "Why haven't I worn this in so long?"

3. Clothes That Require a Bra but ARE NOT Bra-Friendly

The ultimate conundrum, amiright ladies? I'm all for clothes that don't need a bra, but say a slinky backless jersey number that requires one of these contraptions to be publicly acceptable? No.

4. Clothes With Overly Busy Prints

I love prints! But I try to stay away from anything too loud because I'll get sick of it—FAST. Has anyone gotten that hateful feeling looking at a print you've worn too much? Or, worse yet, felt nauseated looking down at an outfit on the drive to work? Same here.

5. Clothes That Don't Fill a Gap

Growing up, if I was debating on whether I should splurge on a piece of clothing, my mom would always ask me if it filled a gap in my wardrobe. Often times, it would turn out I already owned three gray sweaters or I already had a black coat.

6. Clothes That Will Match NOTHING

How many times have you bought a top that is never worn because it doesn't look good with any of your pants/shorts/skirts or jackets? Now, I try to only buy something if I can think of two to three companion pieces already in the closet.

7. Clothes That Don't Feel Like ME

There are some trends I jump on and pray never go out of style (hey, leggings!). Then, there are trends that just feel forced, like those Converse sneakers that have been sitting unworn in my closet for the last few years. They're so cool on everyone else! But somehow make me feel like a dope.

8. Clothes I Don't LOVE

One of the best pieces of shopping advice I received was from a very stylish woman who told me she only bought what she positively loved. So if you're on the fence about an item, your hesitation is the answer.
