Whitney Port and Olivia Palermo aren't the only stylin' City
gals—Whit's pal Erin Lucas
, who appeared on 13 episodes of the MTV fashion reality series, can also hold her own on a red carpet.
Turns out, StyleBistro's latest celebrity guest editor has much to say on the topic of fashion—from her sartorial regrets (baby blue pleather skirt!) to her favorite designers (Timo Weiland, Prada and Erdem).
Editor-in-Chief John Newlin sat down with Erin to gab about all things fashion, beauty and rock 'n' roll. He says, "Erin was an incredible interview; warm, charming, personable, smart, funny, all that. You can instantly tell you're speaking with someone cool when they can take any oddball question and just run with it—and then later send you follow-up cell phone pics. And that she didn't once mention her dad is legendary AC/DC bassist Cliff Williams, I thought was cool. Safe to say Erin's gonna do well in show business."
Apparently. The starlet is currently in the studio recording her debut EP with her band, The Kaleidoscopes. Check out the interview!SB: What products can't you live without? Let me go to my toiletry bag...I'm in love with shea butter vanilla lip balm, Karite—it's just a little cheapy lip balm but I can't live without it. I'm obsessed with Clinque All About Eyes concealer. I can't leave the house without it and it stays on all day. My Blackberry is attached to my hands at all times. It doubles as a camera. I can't ever buy anything without taking a picture of it first because you always gotta know what the backside of the outfit looks like too. I really like any flavor of J'adore [roll-on] perfume.
SB: Three things every woman should have in her closet? You need a staple blazer because it goes with so many pieces. I love Elizabeth and James, they make the best blazers and are not too expensive. A good pair of jeans—I love Current Elliot jeans. I've got on the high-waisted black skinny ones and I'm [also] quite into the bell bottom jeans these days. A go-to feel-good dress, something that you put on and feel sexy. Every woman should have something in her closet that makes her feel sexy and feminine and beautiful.
SB: Do you have any fashion regrets? [Laughs] Oh god, yeah. Thank god they weren't photographed! In fifth grade I use to love this outfit it was a baby blue A-lined pleather skirt from 579 with a matching baby blue pleather taxi hat. It was back in the Clueless days with the knee-high sheer tights and Mary Janes. I thought I looked great. I don't know what I was thinking.
SB: What's been your favorite red carpet moment
? I got a lot of flack for this, but there's a photo of me in a little black A-lined high-waisted American Apparel skirt and this white lace crop top. I had so much fun that night. It's this cute little fun outfit and, you know, people are like 'Oh, the Madonna look,' [and] 'What is she thinking, Clarissa Explains it All?' But I don't know, I loved it.
SB: How would you describe your personal style
? Eclectic, hippie, rock 'n' roll.
SB: What are some of your most treasured pieces of clothing? I just bought the most amazing polka-dot vintage Sonia Rykiel blazer that I'm obsessed with. I've got a couple of really great Kimonos that I like to wear just around the house. It sounds silly, I know, but I think it's nice to feel comfortable and cute. Just because you're at home, doesn't mean you can't dress up. I've got the most gorgeous, vintage Christian Lacroix dress tube top I wore on The City. It's lime green and navy blue.
SB: Tell us about your beauty routine. It's very, very minimal. My hair, I haven't cut it in ages much to my mother's sighs. But I've sort of adopted the whole LA minimalistic [thing]: chapstick, a little bit of blush, undereye concealer, a good brow gel and a tiny bit of mascara. If I go out at night, maybe I'll put on a red lip. It takes five minutes to get ready and getting dressed, like 10.
SB: Which celeb's closet would you love to raid? Do the Olsen twins count as one person? I do love Chloe Sevigny's style. She wears what she wants and she feels good in it. She doesn't care about what other people think. She's got some really interesting pieces. I like how she mixes and matches things.
SB: Who are some of your favorite designers? I am obsessed with all of the Prada stripes and colors and Miu Miu polka dots. I'm loving pattern at the moment. Timo Weiland—he's a friend of mine—I'm so proud of him. I'm loving everything in his collection, it's just so effortlessly chic and cool. I could put on one of his outfits and feel like the coolest person in the room. I love all the lace at Erdem and Dolce & Gabbana. Stella McCartney is also one of my favorites. I love her tailored pieces. Phillip Lim as well. Anna Sui, sort of whimsical, '70s, rock 'n' roll...I love it. I love Jeremy Scott too. He has a great sense of humor—I think that's one of the most important parts of fashion. Sometimes people forget that [fashion is] supposed to make you feel good.
SB: What are your favorite spring trends for 2011? I'm really liking lace and sheer. Maybe it's because I'm in California I've been influenced by this lovely warm weather. I really like the mixing prints, pretty feminine laces and sheer fabrics, and big, big, big platform heels. The bigger the better! And lots of color.
