built an empire on a single, seminal design: The wrap dress, which quickly garnered fans for its comfort and simplicity. Like many revolutionary designs, the inspiration behind von Furstenberg's iconic piece was birthed out of necessity.
"Well, if you're trying to slip out without waking a sleeping man, zips are a nightmare," Diane explained to the UK's Telegraph.
"Haven't you ever tried to creep out of the room unnoticed the following morning? I've done that many times."
It's the familiarity with a woman's needs that von Furstenberg believes is integral to her success. "I can honestly say that I understand women very well. If you understand yourself, you understand women, because, in the end, all women are the same."
