With temperatures rising, so too are hemlines—at least, so we would expect. But this spring is finding Hollywood types in the mood for boyish charm, with the likes of the Minogue sisters stepping out in pants.
Not just any pants, mind you, but true blue boy pants: high waist, rolled cuffs and even the occasional pleat. On Wednesday, Kylie
headed into Heathrow Airport looking ready to lead a troup of Girl Scouts into the outback (she was actually headed to Japan), wearing a gauzy white blouse, sleeves rolled, tucked into high-waist pleated khakis. Meanwhile, across town, sister Dannii
wore her nearly identical pair of chinos with an army-style topper.
Perhaps the new pant is a British thing: Stella McCartney and Matthew Williamson both showed slacks for spring, and model Daisy Lowe recently hit Karl Lagerfeld's Hogan fete in sack-waist mint green jodhpurs
. But girl-meets-boy style has also landed stateside: Nickelodeon star Keke Palmer tried the trend on for size
at this week's LA premiere of Tyler Perry's Madea's Big Happy Family.
In theory, what woman doesn't love the idea of a low-maintance, practical pant? In reality, though, the high-waist version isn't for everyone. And pleats? Watch out, girls: Pleats can often equal pooch. Be careful to choose a style that flatters the tummy, and offset the masculine look with a feminine top and soft accessories.
