Surprisingly, the biggest winners of WWD
's Beauty Inc Awards this year were celebrities. Both Salma Hayek
and Tom Ford
took home the coveted Launch of the Year Award.
Tinseltown's hottest celebs took to the perfume business like bees to honey this year—every star from Selena Gomez
to Jennifer Aniston
put out a signature scent. But, Hayek went the extra mile and launched an entire beauty line exclusively with retailer CVS. The capsule collection of skin care, hair care, body products and makeup was inspired traditional Native American and Mayan remedies used by Hayek's grandmother. Tom Ford's Spring 2012 collection may have been deemed a "nightmare,"
but the Texan-born designer bounced back with a wildly successful beauty launch. Available exclusively at luxury retailers like Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus, the high-end beauty line includes skincare, makeup and perfume.
Fancy New York socialites went positively ga-ga over the cosmetic collection, purchasing a reported $52,000 worth of products in just one evening. Bestseller of the night? A nail color called "Bitter Bitch."
Other noteworthy honors went to Esté
e Lauder for the Prestige Brand of the Year Award and John Freida's Precision Foam Color for the Mass Ad Campaign of the Year.
