Doris Day was born on April 3, 1924. Just wrap your head around that date for a second. There were no TVs! Sunglasses didn't exist. The traffic signal had just been invented, along with the first instant camera. So, clearly, the actress and singer has seen a LOT in her 92 years.
And we're happy to report that at the ripe ol' age of 92, the Hollywood legend says she's feeling good. After all, it's all about how you feel — not your age. “I’m not really fond of birthdays anymore,” she told People. “Age is just a number. How you feel and live your life is more important."
Plus, the star still has her trademark smile and lots of good company —especially in the form of her pup, Squirrely — so what more could you ask for?
Here's a sweet snapshot of Day and Squirrely, from People.
Day isn't a huge fan of her birthday, but she does love her animal friends, so she agreed to celebrate this year in honor of her charity. "But again this year, the Doris Day Animal Foundation team is putting on another big celebration and I am so grateful and honored that fans and friends come from all over the world to help support the precious four-leggers," she said.
The actress has always been a huge animal advocate and the vintage photos of her with dogs (like the one below from Don't Eat the Daisies) are true gems.
We love that her love for animals hasn't waned over the years. “Her biggest birthday wish is that every four-legged friend have a warm bed, plenty to eat, and lots of love,” her publicist Charley Cullen Walters said. “An email blast went out to all her fans with a link to donate to ddaf.org and she was thrilled at the response.” Aw!
