Remember when news broke that Shailene Woodley swears by clay? Not only does the acclaimed actress favor clay toothpaste, but she consumes the actual substance. Although this might seem a little odd at first, it looks like Woodley isn't too far off. Clay has many beneficial properties, especially when it comes to skincare.

Clay-infused beauty products are popping up right and left. The idea is simple: clay helps draw out impurities to reduce bacteria and also hydrates. And a number of skincare brands are opting for the natural ingredient. Boscia's Konjac Cleansing Sponge With Deep Hydration Clay ($15) is infused with red clay that permeates the skin to cleanse out impurities and seal in hydration. Drunk Elephant's JuJu Bar ($28) is a multitasking soap with Heilmoor clay, a version favored by spas. Finally, Osmia Organics' Rose Clay Facial Soap ($24) uses Australian pink clay as well as white kaolin clay to hydrate and heal.

Of course, if you'd prefer the Shailene Woodley way, you can always straight up consume your clay. Juice Generation launched clay shots that detoxify and hydrate from the inside out.
