What I do is I keep up to speed with fashion trends and pick out silhouettes. I like baggy tees, tees that go off the side and crop tops are really in right now. Then I kind of just Abby Dawn it out. Stripes are really in, I just make them rock and roll.SB: So what's next for Abbey Dawn? It's my first time doing footwear and I'm doing heels, as we speak, with studs. I'm doing boots, heels, little ballet slippers and bags and wallets. I just revamped my line, made a big change to it and have a new team around me. I'm just growing it slowly and it's really fun!
Pop star Avril Lavigne
may be best known for her catchy songs and punk rock style, but the talented singer's latest foray into the world of fashion may be her most impressive yet. As the sole creative director of Abbey Dawn, Avril takes a hands on approach to creating her line of rocker chic apparel. Rather than take a back seat and stamp her name on a ready made collection, Avril personally designs items that she herself would wear. The proof? She's often spotted in her brand's vibrant hoodies, T-shirts and hats.
When we chatted with Avril, she was more than happy to dish about her creative process, what shapes her signature style and what we can expect next from Abbey Dawn. Here are some snippets from our conversation:
SB: Where do you find the inspiration for your Abbey Dawn designs? Pretty much my closet and what I'm wearing. I like to be casual, I like to be comfortable. I like rock and roll elements like plaid, studs, skulls, stripes. I like classic, kind of rock and roll patterns and prints, like leopard and zebra. I just make it girly and do fun things with sparkles, pink and purple.
