Sussex Royal, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's official Instagram, announced today that Prince Harry has partnered with Oprah Winfrey on a mental health series debuting on Apple in 2020. The two are co-creators and executive producers of the documentary series which "will focus on both mental illness and mental wellness, inspiring viewers to have an honest conversation about the challenges each of us faces, and how to equip ourselves with the tools to not simply survive, but to thrive."
Mental health is something Prince Harry has been passionate about in the past. He's been open about the trauma from his mother's passing, and also partnered with his brother and sister-in-law, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, on Heads Together, a mental health advocacy campaign.
The Instagram post featured an exclusive quote from Harry, that reads, "I truly believe that good mental health — mental fitness — is the key to powerful leadership, productive communities and a purpose-driven self. It is a huge responsibility to get this right as we bring you the facts, the science and the awareness of a subject that is so relevant during these times. Our hope is that this series will be positive, enlightening and inclusive — sharing global stories of unparalleled human spirit fighting back from the darkest places, and the opportunity for us to understand ourselves and those around us better. I am incredibly proud to be working alongside Oprah on this vital series."
The two reportedly decided to work together after having a discussion about what Harry believed to be the two biggest problems facing the world: climate change and mental wellness. Oprah told Harry about a project she was working on with Apple, and he expressed interest in getting involved — and from there, secret meetings in London ensued.
We love that these two powerful figures are teaming up for a good cause, and can't wait to learn more about the series as details are released. Stay tuned!
