You guys, this deserves some real attention. Amy Schumer has never been one to shy away from expressing her feelings about her own body image and we wish more women would be as happy, positive and proud about their own bodies. So when Glamour magazine included her in their "plus size" issue - one of two in collaboration with Lane Bryant - Amy was shocked to find they included her as one of these women.
The comedian extraordinaire took to her Instagram this morning to express her feelings about being branded "plus size" as a size 6:
Schumer calls out the magazine, exclaiming "Plus size is considered size 16 in America. I go between a size 6 and an 8. @glamourmag put me in their plus size only issue without asking or letting me know and it doesn't feel right to me." And rightfully so! If anything, Schumer has continued to exude a positive body image through constant criticism.
And not surprising at all, some of the best reactions came from her fans:
A spokesperson for Glamour came to the magazine's defense, telling toofab:
"First off, we love Amy, and our readers do too--which is why we featured her on the cover of Glamour last year. The cover line on this special edition--which is aimed at women size 12 and up--simply says 'Women Who Inspire Us,' since we believe her passionate and vocal message of body positivity IS inspiring, as is the message of the many other women, of all sizes, featured. The edition did not describe her as plus-size. We are sorry if we offended her in any way."
I mean, yes, Amy is an inspiration for all women to be more accepting of their own bodies, but it is interesting to see her included in an issue covered by self-proclaimed plus-sized women like Ashley Graham, Melissa McCarthy and Adele. Just sayin'.
Is this really what is considered a "plus size" woman in America?
I'll let you answer that one for yourself.
Regardless of their size, all of these women are beautiful and their weight nor their size are important factors in their true beauty. What do you guys think? Did Glamour cross the line this time? Should there even be a specialized "plus size" issue? Sound off below!
